Introduction
My old friend Douglas Monroe died of natural causes on August 17, 2010, in Hertford North Carolina.
Doug lived life to its fullest and was always skirting the edge. He traveled widely across the southern and eastern United States marketing womens wear. At his warehouse, he would spend weekends working on his latest automotive creation, which might be a Ferrari, a classic Porsche or a restored Harley. His favorite work involved creating ultimate body paint classics on automobiles, preferably fast cars. In body painting, he had no peer.
His heroes included his father, who may have been the inspiration for his work ethic. Doug was a tireless worker, but he played hard as well. He was always game for a new experience, such as the time he went caving in West Virginia. He spent years hang gliding far and wide. When he was not practicing for the drag races, he was working on a souped-up go-cart.
Few people can claim to have done half the things Doug did. Later, he moved to the country, where he became an avid owner of a very large dog, Dino, who was his constant companion.
He was highly entertaining and never held back his opinions. A day seldom went by without a joke from Doug. Thank you my friend, for sharing some wild, wonderful times with me.
Here are just a few photos from the life and times of Doug Monroe:
